NSW Government’s Midtown MacPark Project Transforms Social Housing Estate into Integrated Community

The NSW government’s Communities Plus program has embarked on its inaugural project, Midtown MacPark, aimed at revitalizing a social housing estate into a dynamic integrated community. Over the course of 10-12 years, the project endeavors to deliver 3300 new homes, including a significant number of social and affordable housing units.

Housing Australia has played a pivotal role in supporting the Midtown MacPark project, providing substantial funding through initiatives like the Affordable Housing Bond Aggregator (AHBA) and the National Housing Infrastructure Facility (NHIF). This financial support is crucial for addressing both infrastructure needs and affordable housing requirements within the redevelopment.

The vision for Midtown MacPark extends beyond housing provision, incorporating a mix of social, affordable, and private homes alongside essential amenities. The new precinct will feature a vibrant town plaza, green spaces, schools, childcare centers, and other community facilities, fostering a sense of belonging and well-being among residents.

In a collaborative effort, Mission Australia is set to manage the social housing dwellings within the precinct and deliver on-site support services, contributing to the holistic redevelopment of the area.

The Midtown MacPark project represents a significant step forward in addressing housing needs while creating inclusive and thriving communities. As construction progresses, it stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing housing affordability and social cohesion across NSW.
